Chicago-based Sims Recycling Solutions (SRS) has announced that it has achieved Responsible Recycling Practices for Electronics Recyclers (R2) certification at its facilities in Columbia, S.C.; Sacramento, Calif.; San Francisco; and Franklin Park, Ill.; as well as at two facilities in Tampa, Fla.
The R2 standard is supported by electronic OEMs, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), public interest groups, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and state and local governments. The standard puts forth a set of requirements, including those for environmental, worker health and safety and security practices, for electronics recyclers.
With this announcement, SRS says all of its electronics recycling facilities in North American, except two recently opened facilities in Mississauga, Ontario, and Edison, N.J., are R2 certified. The company says it plans to have these two facilities R2 certified within the next six months.
