Sims Metal Management Ltd. (SMM), headquartered in New York, and Nyrstar NV, an integrated mining and metals business headquartered in Switzerland, have completed the sale of their jointly owned Australian Refined Alloy’s (ARA) secondary lead producing facility in Sydney to companies affiliated with Renewed Metal Technologies, Wagga Wagga, Australia.
The sale, first announced Nov. 15, 2011, totaled about US$86 million. The smelter has an annual production capacity of 20,700 metric tons.
In a statement, SMM and Nyrstar say they will retain ARA’s secondary lead producing facility in Melbourne, Australia, which will continue to be operated as a 50/50 joint venture. The Melbourne smelter has an annual production capacity of 17,200 metric tons.
