A recently formed New England subsidiary of Sims Metal Management Ltd. (SMM) has acquired the assets of Promet Marine Services Corp. Ltd., Providence, R.I. The deep sea export facility consists of more than nine acres and has a rail-serviced pier and two deep water berths on the Providence River.
According to an SMM news release, the newly acquired assets will serve as the company’s main export terminal for its New England operating region. The company also says it plans to continue looking at opportunities to expand its presence in the region with more acquisitions and greenfield developments.
The announced acquisition follows another SMM announcement to build an auto shredding plant in Johnston, R.I.
