Sims Group was among a group of companies in the United Kingdom that received funding from the UK government through its Technology Strategy.
Sims Group UK was awarded £880,000 ($1.645 million) to investigate composites recycling.
The company, with a global headquarters in Australia, is one of the largest recycling companies in the world. While traditionally it has been known as a recycler of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, the company has been investing in a number of areas outside of its traditional markets. These include acquiring a large electronics recycling operation, as well as boosting the plastics, white goods and composite recycling levels in Europe.
