Sims Lifecycle Services (SLS), based in West Chicago, Illinois, has announced its participation in a new circular electronics partnership. The information technology asset disposition (ITAD) and data center recycling company is joining the World Economic Forum and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) to bring together organizations that represent the electronics supply chain.
SLS will contribute at meetings, help create pathway reports and collaborate with other members on pathways, all to develop a road map for circular electronics recycling.
“In order to achieve a circular economy for electronics we need to collaborate with manufacturers, retailers, academia, government organizations and representatives from the entire electronics ecosystem,” says Jelle Slenters, head of business development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at SLS.
“Over the past few years we have seen exponential growth in the amount of electronic material entering the market,” says Sean Magann, global vice president of sales and marketing for SLS. “Equipment types are changing and data centers are growing significantly. Collaborating to ensure environmentally responsible disposition of that material is crucial to our goal at Sims Lifecycle Services: to create a world without waste to preserve our planet.”
Every year, about 50 million tons of electronics and e-scrap are thrown away and less than 20 percent is recycled. This partnership is dedicated to recycling more of those materials.
Sims Lifecycle Services (SLS), rebranded from Sims Recycling Solutions, provides solutions to extend the life of IT and electronic devices, as well as responsibly managing the disposition of IT equipment and recycling of electronic products.
