Sims Brothers Holds Open House

Ohio scrap recycler invites dignitaries to expansion.

Sims Brothers, a Marion, Ohio scrap recycling company, held an open house Oct. 6 to showcase its expanded operation. The company recently added 17,500 square feet to its recycling facility. The new space will allow the company to grow both its ferrous and nonferrous business.

In addition to adding additional space, the company also installed several new pieces of equipment to boost processing capabilities.

For the recycling plant Sims Brothers purchased a Nexgen Two Ram Auto Tie Non-Ferrous Baler. The baler was installed by Ely Enterprises, a Cleveland, Ohio equipment distributor.

The ew NexGen 2R-310-W Two-Ram Baler with a new Mayfran Infeed Conveyor, was designed to equip the recent expansion of the Sims Bros. Nonferrous Recycling Center.

“We have had an excellent relationship with Sims Bros., Inc., for over 20 years, and they are one of our preferred customers”, said Ken Ely, president of Ely Enterprises.

“They approached me when this project initially was in the planning stages.  Based on their needs and the type of material being processed, the NexGen 2R-310-W was the obvious choice.” The Nexgen baler has a 100 hp motor and features full ram penetration to produce denser bales. The baler has a PLC controller that features multiple material selection options to fully automate the baling process. The new Nexgen Nex-Door feature allows for complete grade separation and oversized bale removal.

Sims also showcased a Sierra 750 ton ferrous shear baler, which was installed several months ago. The shear baler will boost the Sims’ ferrous processing capabilities.

In addition to ferrous and nonferrous metals, Sims also is involved with processing of curbside collected material from several surrounding counties.
