ShredStation Inc.,
The company’s e-Media Vault is similar in design to its vaults used for paper destruction with slight modifications to better accommodate large and bulky electronic devices. The new vault allows customers to deposit a variety of electronics and electronic media, including computer hard drives, PDAs, cell phones, DVDs, CDs and floppy disks.
Shred Station will begin licensing its e-Media Vaults in the last quarter of 2007. The vaults will be available to qualified companies that currently destroy and recycle electronic media.
“The service is for electronics and computer related retailers as a means to provide customers with a secure and environmentally conscious way of disposing of any electronics that may contain sensitive or proprietary information,” Al Villamil, president of ShredStation, says.
The vault is made of 16-gage reinforced steel and has a capacity of 32 gallons. When a customer deposits an electronic device, the transaction ID number is printed on the customer’s receipt and is automatically registered in ShredTrack, ShredStation’s proprietary tracking software. The customer can request a certificate of destruction by registering her tracking number on the ShredStation Web site. ShredTrack automatically generates a certificate of destruction and e-mails it to the customer.
The e-Media Vault also alerts the servicing destruction company when the vault is almost full.
