The Shredded Products LLC subsidiary of Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI), located in Rocky Mount, Va., has taken delivery on the second phase of an upgrade to its shredder system that is being supplied by the US Shredder and Castings Group of Trussville, Ala.
According to US Shredder President Bill Tigner, the project has been divided into two phases. In phase one, a stand-alone nonferrous system was installed first, which allowed Shredded Products to continue to use its existing system while phase two components were being manufactured.
The second phase will upgrade the system with a WEG 4,000-hp motor as well as US Shredder’s shredder control and management system, a water injection system, a new control housing with operator station, and new ferrous downstream components.
Ultimately, the ferrous downstream system will be connected to the nonferrous system, all of which will be operating inside a newly erected building. A highlight of the system is the heaviest batch feeder system existing in the market today to allow entire truck loads of material to be introduced into the nonferrous system, according to Tigner.
“A major goal of the project was to manufacture and install the system with minimal downtime of the shredder,” says Tigner. “Our engineers and suppliers worked closely with Shredded Products personnel to accomplish this plan.”
The US Shredder and Castings Group offers scrap downstream systems, nonferrous recovery, air systems, scrap shears, balers, and loggers; as well shredder castings, service and consulting to the scrap industry worldwide. For more information, please contact Bill Tigner at 205-999-7670.
The company recently moved its main sales office to Trussville, Ala., near Birmingham.
