Shift, a Middletown, Rhode Island-based automotive recycling organization, has announced the Shift Vehicle Retirement Initiative, an end-of-life vehicle (ELV) program that provides incentives for certified automotive recyclers to reuse as many original equipment parts from ELV vehicles as possible.
According to Shift, the program is designed for vehicle owners who wish to retire their internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles while reducing their carbon footprint.
Shift has partnered with the Automotive Recycling Training Institute (ARTI) to process consumer vehicles and ensure dismantling complies with environmental protocols, the organization says. Based in Manassas, Virginia, ARTI is a 501c3 which works to train professionals in the automotive recycling industry.
Vehicle owners may be eligible to receive a tax deduction through participation in the program, Shift says.
“Most gas-powered vehicles are 85 to 90 percent recyclable, which includes metal materials, tires, fluids, glass, plastic, fabric and rubber components,” Shift President and CEO Joe Hearn says. “By donating a vehicle through Shift, consumers not only help eliminate carbon emissions by retiring an ICE vehicle from the road but also ensure a steady supply of quality ROE parts remain available for drivers who can’t yet make the transition to an electric or hybrid vehicle.”
Hearn and other members of the Shift leadership team will be attending the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) Convention on Oct. 12-14 and will be available for comment at Booth 914.
“Shift and its partnership with ARTI is a win-win for consumers, recyclers, and most of all, the environment, " says Jonathan Morrow, president of ARTI. “Automotive recyclers represent the original recycling industry. Shift will shine a light on the myriad ways recyclers are committed to reducing carbon emissions.”
