Shapiro has received the 2025 Innovation Award for Sustainability Excellence from the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM), which recognizes the company’s work promoting sustainability solutions and the circular economy in the manufacturing industry.

The St. Louis-based company serves manufacturers across a range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, foundry and die casting and transportation, by managing their scrap streams and designing programs that offer sustainable and circular outcomes.

“Shapiro is setting a new standard for sustainable practices in manufacturing,” NATM Executive Director Alex Stowe says.

Shapiro, which was founded in 1904, has become a partner for companies looking to reduce their environmental impact with programs that include Circular by Shapiro and Master Alloys by Shapiro. According to the company, these programs can deliver a number of benefits to its customers:

  • turning waste into valuable resources;
  • cutting carbon emissions by up to 40 percent;
  • discovering new revenue opportunities through green practices; and
  • building transparent, data-driven recycling and sustainability programs.

Shapiro says its approach goes beyond traditional recycling methods to include advanced analytics, custom reports and responsible sourcing that help clients measure and reduce their carbon footprints, address Scope 3 emissions and develop zero-waste strategies.

“Our mission is to reshape how industries view sustainability,” says Bo Howard, Shapiro vice president of new business development. “We’re not just cutting waste—we’re building a circular economy that benefits businesses and the planet.”

With 11 offices across the U.S., Canada and Mexico, Shapiro says it offers businesses practical sustainability solutions that help companies create closed-loop supply chains.
