Shapiro Brothers, a Missouri scrap metal recycling company with multiple locations in the state, recently relocated its Moberly, Mo., facility to allow the company to expand its operations. The company was able to accomplish the move with assistance from the Moberly Area Economic Development Corp. According to Corey Mehaffy, president of the MAEDC, the two parties have been working hard over the past year to assist the scrap metal firm with their expansion plans.
“The past several months have been very exciting,” said Mehaffy. “The Shapiro Project is a unique opportunity for Moberly and I am grateful that they chose to make this new investment in our community. I truly believe Moberly is a great community with good people and a quality workforce and in the end I believe this was a determining factor for Shapiro as well.”
The new facility is on roughly ten acres. Additionally, the new site has a commercial building with tenants. Mehaffy says that Shapiro will keep the occupants and the building, while using other acreage at the new site.
Mehaffy went on to add, “Over the next three years, Shapiro will be adding 10 new full-time positions to their workforce here at the Moberly yard as well as making a significant investment in infrastructure improvements. The project will also include the development of a new rail spur on the site that will be available for use by other companies and organizations in the community for loading and offloading rail cars. We are excited to partner with Shapiro to bring this project online in Moberly and we look forward to working with them to expand the project in the years to come.”
