Shapiro Metals receives Community Impact Award

The Shapiro’s Heroes program celebrates employees who served in the U.S. military.

The Springfield-based Missouri Association of Manufacturers (MAM) has honored Shapiro Metals, St. Louis, with its Community Impact Award.

The Made in Missouri Leadership Awards (MMLAs) were Sept. 24 in Independence, Missouri. The awards were created to honor manufacturing companies and individuals who are shaping the future of manufacturing.

Shapiro Metals was chosen as the 2019 recipient for its Shapiro’s Heroes program. Throughout the month of November, Shapiro Metals celebrates the contribution of its employees who have served in the U.S. armed forces.

Shapiro Metals employees who are military veterans are given a special Shapiro’s Heroes jacket and are featured on social media throughout the month. The supervisors and teams at Shapiro Metals’ 10 plants across the country worked to put together a video honoring each veteran individually.

Company leadership also held a drawing for all Shapiro’s Heroes, providing the winner an all-expenses-paid weekend trip to Washington to visit the monuments and Arlington National Cemetery.

Judy Ferraro, the company’s vice president of sales, accepted the award along with Bob Alvarez, Ashley Tracy, Jeff Cox and two of Shapiro’s Heroes, Don Shelton and Tom Viviano.

“We are humbled to be recognized by MAM with this award,” said Ferraro. “We’re grateful for our nation’s veterans, and we are always striving to make a positive impact in their lives.”
