Valmet to supply paper machine to Shanying Holdings

Chinese papermaker will add new containerboard line in Hubei Province.

Finland-based Valmet Oyj has announced it will supply an OptiConcept M containerboard making line for Shanying International Holdings Co. Ltd., in the city of Jingzhou in Hubei Province, China. The new production line will be known as paper machine (PM) 23 for Shanying.

PM 23 is being designed to produce what Valmet calls high-quality fluting grades, with its startup scheduled to take place before the end of 2019. The Valmet news release does not disclose to what extent the new machine will be fed with recovered fiber, although Shanying Holdings includes CycleLink, a recovered fiber trading firm, among its subsidiaries.

Although the value of the PM23 order will not be disclosed, Valmet says, “The total value of an order of this type is typically around €30 million to €40 million ($34 million to $45.5 million).

“This is the seventh Valmet-supplied paper and board making line for Shanying International,” says Timo Saresvuo, senior sales manager at Valmet. “Compared to conventional production lines, both of the new production lines will be able to significantly reduce carbon emissions as well as energy consumption.”

Valmet says PM23 will be able to produce fluting grades at a speed of up to 1,300 meters per minute (4,265 feet per minute) and daily capacity of approximately 1,200 metric tons.

Ma’Anshan City-based Shanying International Holdings Co. Ltd., formerly Anhui Shanying Paper Industry Co. Ltd., produces various packaging paper boards, newsprint paper, corrugated cardboard boxes and other paper products marketed under the Shanying brand. The company says it distributes its products within domestic markets, with eastern China as its main market.

Valmet describes itself as a leading global developer and supplier of process technologies, automation and services for the pulp, paper and energy industries.
