SEDA Environmental, Fayetteville, Ga., which markets its product line to auto dismantlers, has introduced the F-500 encapsulating agent, which it says is designed to extinguish fires quickly.
SEDA says the F-500 is not a wetting or foam agent and that it is the only firefighting system on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Emergency Management List.
In a Class A fire, the F-500 encapsulating agent penetrates deep into the fuel, says SEDA, as its molecules move to the surface of each water droplet to form a protective skin.
When water is applied to a fire, much of the water dissipates as steam. The F-500 EA molecules surrounding the water droplets have nonpolar tails that draw the heat into the droplets. No scalding steam is created, only a warm, white vapor is released, says SEDA.
The company adds that tests have shown that with F-500 steel plating cools from 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit to 120 degrees in seconds. The agent also is effective on Class B and Class D fires, says SEDA.
