Secure Eco Shred, Farmington, Mich., will offer free srhedding and disposal of confidential documents to the community Saturday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oakland Mall in Troy, Mich.
Residents are limited to two-file drawer boxes of material per person. There is no need to remove staples or paper clips.
Troy Police will also be on hand to offer tips on how to prevent identity theft.
"This is the third year that we have teamed up with Secure Eco Shred and Oakland Mall to help educate the community on how to prevent identity theft," Police officer Jay Reynolds says. "A recent study by the Federal Trade Commission shows that in the last year an estimated 10 million Americans have been victims of identity theft."
