Sebring and Lake Placid, Florida, communities consider recycling options

Decision must be made following start of Highlands County recycling program.

Highlands (Florida) Today reports Sebring and Lake Placid will not begin their residential recycling programs to coincide with Highlands County in February.

Sebring and Lake Placid currently use numerous recycling locations provided by the county. These receptacles will be removed after the Highlands County program begins, and there are no immediate plans to replace them, the article says.

Sebring City Administrator Scott Noethlich told the newspaper the city is concerned about potential increased costs to residents if it implements a new recycling program and is looking into whether Highlands County would waive landfill tipping fees for recyclables and other potential fees.

In the article, Lake Placid Town Administrator Phil Williams says the town is waiting for the county to get its program in place before reaching a decision.

“It’s just kind of a watch-and-see type thing,” he told the newspaper.
