The city of Seattle will be holding an open house Sept. 7 at its new recycling facility. Additionally, the Seattle Public Utilities will be planning major improvements to the city’s solid waste facilities.
Following a four-year planning process, SPU is planning to:
* Build a new, state-of-the-art intermodal transfer facility between the railroad tracks and Corgiat Drive in South Seattle, where garbage and other solid waste can be loaded from collection trucks onto trains for shipment to disposal sites.
* Rebuild the north and south transfer stations at their current locations in Wallingford and South Park, using additional property adjacent to each site, to improve their customer service, and expand recycling and reuse.
The West Seattle open house will be held at the Delridge Community Center, 4501 Delridge Way SW, West Seattle.
Presentations will be repeated hourly at both open houses, at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7 p.m.
