Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI), headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, has announced the July 28 restart of the hot mill at its Sinton, Texas, flat-roll steel mill after an unplanned outage that began July 1.
The outage was related to caster shear equipment issues, which the team has addressed, SDI says. The company continued to operate Sinton’s cold mill and downstream value-added flat-rolled steel coating lines during the outage.
The electric arc furnace steel mill achieved positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for the second quarter of 2023, the company says, and it believes the additional expenses related to fixing the caster shear issue will be less than $1 million during the outage.
