SDI Names Millett President, COO

Mark Millett formerly headed Steel Dynamics' OmniSource subsidiary.

The board of directors for Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI), based in Fort Wayne, Ind., has approved the appointment of Mark Millett to president and chief operating officer (COO) of the company, effective immediately.

Millett, a co-founder of SDI, has been executive vice president of metals recycling and ferrous resources and president and COO of OmniSource Corp., Fort Wayne, a wholly owned subsidiary of SDI. In those capacities, Millett has been responsible for the company's resources platform, which includes all ferrous and nonferrous scrap operations and iron-making initiatives.
Millett will continue to report to Keith Busse, SDI co-founder, chairman and CEO. He will assume direct management of the operating leadership team.
A search is underway to fill Millett’s previous position. Until then, Millett will continue to fulfill these responsibilities as well.
Richard Teets Jr., SDI’s third co-founder and a company director, will continue to serve as executive vice president and president and COO of steelmaking.
"Mark's appointment recognizes the leadership role Mark has played in the growth of the company," says Busse. "Mark and I have worked together for decades, and he has been an important part of our company's success, both on the steelmaking side and in connection with our ferrous resources platform. Mark, Dick (Teets Jr.) and I will continue to work together to propel our company to new heights."
Joseph Ruffolo, the board's lead independent director, says, "This appointment is part of the board's ongoing executive talent development and succession planning process. This appointment is part of our mission to ensure that the company continues to benefit from consistent, strong and capable leadership."
