New Haven, Ind.-based SDI LaFarga LLC, a copper smelting operation and joint venture between steel minimill operator Steel Dynamics, Fort Wayne, Ind., and the Spain-based copper firm LaFarga Group, has named Kurt Breischaft president.
The SDI LaFarga copper rod mill uses a patented system for reclaiming processed copper, refining it and providing new high-quality copper products to customers in a range of industries. The plant's designed capacity is 180 million pounds per year and was built for $40 million in 2012.
The LaFarga Group has been involved in the production of copper for more than 200 years. The company has 25 plants in 14 countries.
Breischaft, formerly vice president and general manager of Cerro Plumbing Products, part of the Marmon Group/Berkshire Hathaway Co., brings more than 20 years of experience in the copper industry to this newly created position.
