Scrap.Edu is the name being given to a three-day training seminar that has been organized by the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI). The seminar takes place Jan. 27-29 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel near Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.
The event’s organizers are billing the $295 seminar as consisting of interactive scrap training. Sessions that will be offered cover a range of topics, including:
• Safety
• Stormwater best practices
• Stainless and alloyed metals identification
• Ferrous scrap grades identification
• Radiation detection
• Railcar loading and unloading procedures; and
• Regulatory compliance.
The educational sessions take place Wednesday and Thursday Jan. 27 and 28, followed by a tour of the Gerdau Ameristeel scrap processing and steelmaking complex in Midlothian, Texas, on Friday, Jan. 29.
