New scrap yard planned near Bradenton, Florida

A new scrap yard is in the process of being planned and built in Manatee County, Florida, in an unincorporated area between the cities of Bradenton and Sarasota.

According to a report on the Bradenton Herald website, the business will be named Renovo Resource Recovery and will operate from 45,000 square feet of plant and office space situated on 9.4 acres southeast of Bradenton.

A member of the ownership group of the new company is quoted as saying the scrap yard will concentrate on serving retail traffic, including homeowners and “professional scrappers.”

James K. Toomey, the former chairman of a regional Florida bank that merged with an out-of-state bank in late 2007, is identified as one of the owners of 6 LLC, the company that owns the 9.4-acre parcel of land that will operate Renovo Resource Recovery.

Toomey told the Herald that Renovo expects to break ground on the facility after Manatee County official review the plans for the $1.5 million paved facility.

Toomey also told the newspaper that he and two business partners decided to open the scrap yard after their research showed that Manatee County has a low scrap-yard-to-population ratio compared with other parts of Florida.

Another scrap recycler contacted by the Herald, Mike Allen of Suncoast Meals in Sarasota, expressed concerns to the newspaper about the current state of the scrap market, saying, “There's no demand. There's not enough scrap in the area.”
