Kansas City, Missouri-based Scrap Management Industries (SMI) has acquired 12th & Haskell Recycle Center in Lawrence, Kansas, and East Wilson Recycle in Ottawa, Kansas.
The ferrous and nonferrous metals recycling company says
The expansion marks its eighth and ninth locations for the metals recycling company, which it says further strengthens its ability to serve residents and industrial and commercial recycling needs across the region.
The two recycling facilities will begin operating under the names Scrap Management Industries-Lawrence and Scrap Management Industries-Ottawa.
“This acquisition aligns with our long-term growth strategy and reinforces our commitment to providing sustainable, efficient and responsible recycling solutions,” SMI President and CEO Jerrit Burgess says. “By adding the Lawrence and Ottawa locations, we are well-positioned to better serve our industrial partners, small businesses and individual recyclers while expanding our presence and impact in the region."
The two recycling locations have a history spanning 20 years.
“Now under SMI's ownership, the locations will enhance their capabilities to support industrial scrap management services, offering tailored solutions to businesses of all sizes,” SMI says.
The newly acquired facilities will act as feeder yards for SMI’s existing Kansas City operation and, according to SMI, the 15 employees at the locations will remain on the job.
“SMI remains committed to maintaining transparent, ethical recycling practices while embracing innovation in metal recycling technology," Burgess says. "Our company's expansion into Lawrence and Ottawa reflects our dedication to both environmental sustainability and economic growth in the region.”
