Schupan & Sons, a scrap metal recycler headquartered in Kalamazoo, Mich., has been recognized by the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber of Commerce with its 2011 Chamber Environmental Award.
According to the chamber, the Environmental Award is presented to a member person, company or entity that has displayed efforts to improve quality of life for the Kalamazoo region through the betterment of the environment, including the creative use of resources to provide innovative solutions to environmental challenges; design, use or production of innovative products or services that supports a sustainable future; leadership displayed with respect to addressing environmental issues; involvement with public policy issues that help improve quality of life; and efforts to improve environmental awareness throughout the community and region.
Schupan & Sons was recognized for its efforts to making recycling easier and accessible through its educational programs. The company’s Schupan Industrial Recycling operation processes more than 80 million pounds of material per year and targets large and small nonferrous scrap producers. The company’s Schupan Beverage Container Recycling collects for recycling 70 percent of all the aluminum cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles covered by Michigan’s deposit law.
