Germany-based Schumacher Packaging has commissioned Voith GmbH to rebuild paper machine (PM) 2 at its Myszków, Poland, corrugated containerboard mill location.

The rebuilt line is scheduled to start up in mid-2023, according to Voith. After the rebuild, the line will double PM2’s production capacity of lightweight containerboard from 500 to 1,000 tons per day, according to the equipment company.

As part of the rebuild scope, Voith will upgrade the old corrugated containers (OCC) recovered fiber stock preparation system with technologies from its BlueLine portfolio, and the paper machine will be “extensively modernized with state-of-the-art machine concepts and a new VariFlex NG high-performance winder,” says Voith.

Voith says it is focusing on “high-availability, technological efficiency, process stability and sustainability with the lowest possible energy balance for the plant.” Schumacher Packaging also will benefit from “simple and safe operation of the machines, [the] extensive technological knowledge of Voith experts [and from] minimizing the maintenance and servicing effort,” the Germany-based equipment manufacturer adds.

“We have found a perfect partner for our ambitious project with the full-line supplier Voith,” says Bjoern Schumacher, CEO of Schumacher Packaging Group. “With the doubled production capacity, we enable a smooth supply chain with significantly increased planning reliability. Voith was convincing due to its market-leading technologies, many years of experience and high quality standards.”

The Schumacher Packaging Group has several production sites in both Germany and Poland, a plant in the Czech Republic that makes composite packaging and, in late 2019, acquired a packaging plant in Birmingham, United Kingdom
