SCA to Add MRF

U.K.-based SCA Recycling has announced the development of a material recovery facility (MRF) that will allow the company to expand beyond paper recovery into the recovery of plastics, metal cans and glass from industrial and commercial sectors and also from local authority sources.

According to SCA, this investment will move the company into more dynamic markets that are being driven by legislative changes and environmental factors. The new MRF, which SCA says is being built to the highest environmental and technical standards, also will allow the company to meet market challenges.

The new plant, to be located in Southampton, is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2009. The MRF will occupy a 6.7-acre site and create up to 80 new jobs with a capacity to process 200,000 metric tons per year of paper and dry recyclables.

The company expects to partner with commercial and industrial sources, municipal stakeholders as well as local and national waste management companies.

Recycling has become an essential part of everyday life, and the U.K. desperately needs merchant facilities to meet the growing requirement for cost-effective, sustainable alternatives to landfill.”
