SCA North America’s tissue division has announced that it is increasing its prices for away-from home tissue products by as much as 9 percent, effective March 11. The company cited higher manufacturing costs as the key reason for the decision.
“We have been absorbing increased costs in natural gas, fiber and transportation for some time now,” said Joseph Raccuia, president and CEO of the Tissue Division of SCA North America. “Even though we have done an excellent job reducing costs in other areas of the business, we are at a point where we have no choice but to start reflecting these higher costs in our pricing.”
Recovered fiber prices have remained elevated for the past 18 months. The company noted that “Stronger than expected economic growth in China will almost certainly translate into tighter markets for recovered grades. In fact, economic growth throughout the developed world will probably accelerate in 2004,” Raccuia added.
