SCA, headquartered in Sweden, announced plans to build a new tissue machine and expand its converting operations in Valls, Spain. The cost of the two projects will be around $61.5 million.
The new machine is scheduled to go into operation in April 2007 and will have an annual production capacity of about 60,000 metric tons. SCA will by that continue to develop Valls as one of its important centers for tissue.
In announcing plans to expand its operations in Spain, SCA noted that the region is one of the fastest growing in Europe, with annual growth of about 4 percent. SCA is the largest player in consumer tissue with approximately one-third of the market.
