SCA Building Tissue Machine in Spain

Paper giant also looking to expand converting operation at other Spanish plant.

SCA, headquartered in Sweden, announced plans to build a new tissue machine and expand its converting operations in Valls, Spain. The cost of the two projects will be around $61.5 million.

The new machine is scheduled to go into operation in April 2007 and will have an annual production capacity of about 60,000 metric tons. SCA will by that continue to develop Valls as one of its important centers for tissue.

In announcing plans to expand its operations in Spain, SCA noted that the region is one of the fastest growing in Europe, with annual growth of about 4 percent. SCA is the largest player in consumer tissue with approximately one-third of the market.

A first machine in Valls has been in production since this summer. The new investment will allow SCA to take advantage of the opportunities for continued growth in the area.
