Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. has launched its Samsung Takeback and Recycle (STAR) program in India. The program is aimed at generating awareness and educating consumers on the importance of recycling electronic scrap.
Through the program, Samsung will encourage consumers to recycle Samsung-branded consumer electronics at no cost at any of the 235 drop-off locations in 20 cities Samsung has established in India, according to a release.
For larger products, consumers can deliver them to the product collection facility for a nominal payment (if the location is outside the municipal limits) or drop the product at any of the company’s 291 collection centers in 21 cities. This initiative will gradually be extended nationally.
To ensure the success of the STAR program, Samsung has signed contracts with a number of electronics recycling companies in the country. Further, Samsung reports that its recycling partners have committed to not incinerating, landfilling or exporting toxic waste to developing countries.
