SAICA Group, a Spanish paper company, has announced plans to spend £290 million to build a recycled paper mill in Trafford, United Kingdom. The mill is expected to create up to 200 jobs, according to the company.
The company says it expects to break ground on the facility before the end of 2010.
Working with SAICA to build the facility in the United Kingdom are UK Trade & Investment, which is the United Kingdom’s international business development agency; the Northwest Regional Development Agency; and the Trafford Council.
The mill is described in a news report from the United Kingdom Web site www.letsrecycle.com as being a 100 percent recycled-content containerboard mill with the capacity to produce 400,000 metric tons of product per year.
This recent announcement adds to SAICA’s investment in the U.K, which the company says has totaled more than £470 million since 2007, when the company acquired International Paper’s Packaging business in the U.K. and Ireland.“This investment is great news for both the U.K. and the North West,” says Sir Andrew Cahn, UK Trade & Investment chief executive. “By choosing to build Europe’s most advanced paper mill in Britain, SAICA recognizes that the U.K. is the best place to establish a European operation. This shows sustainable business is a strong part of the British economy.”
