Last week, Saica Group has officially broke ground on its corrugated packaging facility in Anderson, Indiana—the Spanish paper packaging company’s second corrugated site in the United States.
The company announced plans for the facility in March and originally expected construction to begin this May, however, the facility still is expected to start up by the fourth quarter of 2026.
“Saica is committed to stability and long-term growth in the U.S.,” Saica Group President and CEO Susana Alejandro said when the company first announced plans for the Anderson site.
“This investment is proof that we are moving forward with our plans in the U.S. as we are convinced that we can provide products that will differentiate us in a crowded market. It reflects our deep commitment to delivering exceptional service, as we believe our knowledge and experience in the production of lighter-weight containerboard and corrugated packaging will bring high-performance packaging to the U.S. market while becoming more efficient in the use of materials.”
According to Saica, the facility will produce more than 1.2 million square feet of corrugated packaging annually and will serve as a backup facility for the company’s site in Hamilton, Ohio, to reinforce supply chain security.
The facility will include manufacturing, converting and production areas as well as warehouse and office space and is expected to create more than 100 jobs in Indiana once it reaches full operational capacity.
Based on that plan to create more than 100 jobs in the area by the end of 2030, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC) has committed up to $2 million in incentive-based tax credits and up to $150,000 in training grants. The IEDC also has offered up to $300,000 in Industrial Development Grant Fund incentives to support infrastructure improvements surrounding the new facility.
This most recent investment follows Saica’s 2021 announcement to invest about $800 million in the U.S. market
“We are excited to welcome Saica to this area,” State Sen. Tim Lanane says. “We look forward to working with their team as they become integrated into our community. Saica will be a great asset to Anderson’s advanced manufacturing network.”
