The European Commission has been notified that Spain-based SA Industrias Celulosa Aragonesa (SAICA) is preparing to acquire Emin Leydier SA, a France-based recycled-content containerboard board manufacturer.
According to a list of proposed acquisitions presented online by Reuters, SAICA notified the EC Dec. 20, 2017, with a deadline of Feb. 2, 2018, assigned to the EC’s approval.
Emin Leydier, based near Lyon, France, has roots that trace back to a paper mill that was started in 1859. According to its website, the company currently operates two mills producing 750,000 metric tons annually of containerboard. Emin Leydier also operates six downstream packaging plants.
According to its website, SAICA operates seven paper machines housed in four mills located in Spain, France and the United Kingdom (not including the two mills in France to be potentially acquired). The company also operates recycling centers, box making and packaging plants in Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Ireland and the U.K., and sales offices in other nations.
