SAI Global Releases Program Targeting Electronics Recyclers

Course is designed for E-stewards and prospective E-stewards.

SAI Global has released its e-Stewards Management System Implementation training course. The course is designed for e-stewards and potential e-stewards that are looking to understand the requirements of the standard and to access the tools and guidance necessary to support practical and valuable system implementation.

The course covers a range of topics that are designed to help managers understand the importance of responsible electronics recycling and how a company can get an e-stewards management system in place.

SAI says in the first part of the session, attendees will discover the inevitability of e-Stewardship. According to SAI, e-Stewards Certification will provide the highest level of assurance available to verify that an electronics recycler or asset recovery company meets the e-Stewards’ criteria.

The second part of the session analyzes the structure and scope of the e-Stewards standard, which was established by the Basel Action Network (BAN) in partnership with other parties involved in the electronics recycling industry. The purpose of e-Stewards is to provide rigorous, yet practical operational criteria for globally responsible recycling and refurbishing of electronic equipment. The standard builds on ISO 14001-2004 as a platform, and also integrates occupational health and safety, social accountability, media sanitization, export and disposal restrictions and etc.

Key milestones involved in establishing e-Stewards system and achieving certification will be also be discussed.

In the third part of the session, participants will see practicalities of implementing the e-Stewards standard. They will also have a clear view of how to design an e-Stewards Management System that would add business value to organization and demonstrate corporate responsibility to customers.

The course is offered publically in a number of locations across North America. If a company has several employees that need the training, the course can be privately conducted at any facility in-house. In-house training can provide a substantial cost savings depending on the number of class attendees.

Cost of the four days e-Stewards Management System Implementation course is $1,795. By signing up 60 days or more in advance, attendees can receive an early bird discount of 15 percent off the retail price.

In addition to this course, SAI Global offers to watch a complimentary recorded webinar on the Overview of the e-Stewards Standard and Certification Process. This webinar will give an introduction and basic tips and tools for e-Stewards registration.
