Wasuau Insurance Companies, Wausau, Wis., has recognized Universal Scrap Metals Inc., Chicago, for its safety performance record, according to a release from Universal Scrap.
The insurance group awarded Universal Scrap with a metal plaque in honor of the company’s 70 employees clocking 500,330 hours of work over the past 3½ years without a single lost work day case, says the release.
“Universal has been a great company to partner with over the past few years and I look forward to continued success with them,” says Shawn Hau, Wausau loss prevention consultant.
Hau credits Bill Karr, Universal’s plant manager, for the company’s commitment to a safe work environment. “This guy was determined to instill a safety culture,” Hau says. “He just doesn’t give up.”
Karr says the atmosphere at Universal contributes to the company’s safety record.
“This is our work place family and you don’t give up on your family,” says Karr.Latest from Recycling Today
