Sadoff Iron & Metal has announced that it recently completed the design and construction of a 1,185-square-foot scrap metal sorting house at the scrap metal recycling company’s plant in Fond du Lac, Wis. A.C.E. Building Service, located in Manitowoc, Wis., was the contractor that performed the project.
According to a release, the new two-story structure features improved ergonomics, enhanced safety features and recycling efficiency for Sadoff. The project is part of a larger improvement to Sadoff’s Fond du Lac yard and is the second sorting house A.C.E. has completed for Sadoff – the first one was constructed in 2006 at Gus Holman Co. in Sheboygan, a division of Sadoff.
The upgrade includes the installation of a new Harris 1100 side compression shear, the first one that Harris built, according to a spokesman for Sadoff. An advantage of the Harris shear is that it includes new technology that makes it more energy efficient. The Harris shear replaces two older shears that the company operated.
With the new equipment and sorting line, the company feels that it can boost its production by between 25-30 percent.
