Sackers Recycling, a scrap metal recycler based in Ipswich, England, has entered into an agreement with Wattisham Airfield, United Kingdom, to employ members who have served in the armed forces. Sackers received a bronze award, which, according to a news release, “acknowledges the business is supporting armed forces, including existing or prospective employees who are members of the community.”
Sackers currently employs seven service members, five of whom are retired military personnel. Sackers also employs the spouse of a military member. Armed forces make up nearly 10 percent of the company’s workforce, according to the news release.
Sackers says it will aim to receive a silver award, which means it “will go above and beyond” to ensure service personnel and the armed forces community are not “unfairly disadvantaged as part of their recruiting and selection processes.”
“They are highly skilled and can bring some great attributes to any business,” Adrian Dodds of Sackers states in the release, hinting to the training military members receive, which they bring to their civilian careers. “I can’t see why any business wouldn’t want to explore this opportunity.”
Established in 1920, Sackers states the company aims to recycle more than 90 percent of scrap that enters into its facilities.
