The city of Darlington, SC, is discontinuing its glass collection program with its vendor, Carolina Container Corp., Bishopville. The company, which has been picking up the recyclables for the city of around 7,000, cited the lack of end markets as the main reason for its decision to halt collecting the material.
While the company will be eliminating the collection of glass, the company will continue to handle the other recyclables collected by the city, including UBCs, plastics, and paper.
Rodney Langley, with the city of Darlington, said that the present contract with CCC is to run until next June. Between now and then, the city and the vendor will be looking at other locations where glass may be delivered.
Darlington County itself has a number of glass drop off locations where people can deliver their glass containers.Get curated news on YOUR industry.
