RNCOS, an industry research firm based in India, has released its U.S. Aluminum Market Analysis report indicating that aluminum is rapidly gaining preference over other metals due to its light weight, strength and because it can be easily recycled. According to the report, the packaging industry is one of the most aluminum intensive sectors in the U.S., consuming around 23 percent of the aluminum produced in the country. RNCOS reports that this large market share can be attributed to the change in habits of U.S. citizens, who are now realizing the advantages of recycled aluminum as an energy-saving and cost-efficient means of aluminum production. A free sample of the report is available at http://www.rncos.com/Report/IM581.htm.
The report also says that the use of secondary aluminum content in all packaging segments like food containers, beverage cans and institutional and household foil is increasing. RNCOS estimates that by 2015, aluminum beverage container recycling rates will reach 75 percent, which will only boost the demand for secondary aluminum in the country.
The report adds that the green building industry will provide further support to aluminum demand in the U.S. because, according to RNCOS, "it is almost maintenance-free and does not emit any toxic fumes when exposed to high temperatures." As a result, the report indicates aluminum’s use as a building material is rapidly increasing. While the slump in the U.S. construction industry has affected aluminum demand in 2009, the green building growth will help the aluminum industry to recover in 2010, according to the report.
