Indiana agency recognizes RMR with safety designation

Scrap metal processor’s Greensburg, Indiana, facility receives INSHARP designation.

River Metals Recycling (RMR), a scrap metal processing company wholly owned by Cincinnati-based The David J. Joseph Co. (DJJ), has announced that its Greensburg, Indiana, scrap metal recycling facility has been recognized by Indiana Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (INSHARP). According to the Indiana Department of Labor (IDOL), INSHARP businesses are proven workplace safety and health leaders.

“River Metals Recycling demonstrates a tireless dedication to safety,” says IDOL Commissioner Rick Ruble. “Their employees are able to go to work knowing safety is a priority today and will continue to be tomorrow, next week and next year.”

To participate in INSHARP, a company must develop, implement and maintain an exemplary worker safety and health management system and pass a comprehensive safety and health evaluation by the IDOL. In addition, the facility’s occupational injury and illness rates must be below the national industry average.

Less than 50 Indiana employers have achieved INSHARP certification, according to IDOL.

Last year, RMR’s Newport, Kentucky, location became the first recycling center in Kentucky to achieve Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certification, the company says.

Additionally, RMR says its Newport and Somerset, Kentucky, locations received Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards from the Kentucky Labor Cabinet.

“Safety is recognized and promoted as a core value at RMR,” says Bob Eviston, president of RMR. “Active participation throughout all levels of the organization is key to the success of our safety process, and we continue to explore new ways to improve safety in our plants.

Eviston adds, “Congratulations to all RMR Greensburg teammates on receiving this important INSHARP certification.”

RMR has nine locations in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
