Company also is installing a beverage can trimming and slitting machine.

Rio Tinto Alcan inaugurated a new $7 million remelting furnace for recycling used beverage cans and a new $15 million trimming and slitting machine for beverage can body stock at its Neuf-Brisach site in France.

"These investments strengthen Alcan Specialty Sheet's position as the leading supplier of the rapid expanding European can stock market," said Christel Bories, president and CEO, Alcan Engineered Products. "Neuf-Brisach's fully integrated recycling, rolling and finishing facility makes it unique on the European continent," she added.

"Alcan Specialty Sheet is now able to offer competitive end-to-end customer solutions," said Christophe Villemin, president Alcan Specialty Sheet. "These investments will provide an economical and environmentally friendly solution to producing can body stock using UBC based metal, and will allow Neuf-Brisach to meet growing customer demand and offer a differentiated value proposition both in quality and service," he added.
