Charging that pieces of the old Foxboro (Boston) Stadium are among debris being trucked in from out of state to the Pond View Recycling Co. in East Providence, RI, state Rep. Elizabeth Dennigan is planning a rally to oppose the already-approved expansion of the facility.
Ken Foley, president of Pond View, said that the licensing process, which began around one year ago, could be complete within the next 60-90 days.
Last week, the Department of Environmental Management announced its intention to license the facility to increase its capacity from 150 tons of demolition and construction debris a day to 500 tons.
In April, Dennigan filed a complaint with the attorney general's office because of what she called DEM's inadequate investigations and lack of enforcement regarding Pond View's "history of violations, according to an article by the Pawtucket (Rhode Island) Times.
"Past problems regarding violations of city ordinances and state law have never been resolved and expansion should be the last thing on Pond View's mind," Dennigan said.
Foley, however, counters that since Pond View opened, five years ago, the company has never been cited for violations.
As for opponents of the C&D facility, Foley adds that the company operates its facility in an area zoned for heavy industrial usage.
