The Rhode Island State Senate has unanimously approved four recycling bills that are intended to reduce material dumped at the state’s Central Landfill, specifically household material, leaf and yard debris and electronics, according to a report in the Providence Journal (
All of the bills are now awaiting consideration in the House Environmental and Natural Resources Committee, except the electronics recycling bill, which was been sent to the House Finance Committee, according to the report.
Some of the changes included in the bills are requiring cities and towns to submit plans to the state to meet a 35-percent recycling goal, making recycling mandatory for business with at least 50 employees and banning yard debris from disposal at Central Landfill.
The electronics bill would require electronics manufacturers to take back and recycle household electronic products.
