Rexam Closing Can Plant

Aluminum manufacturer looks to shut California operations by this coming February.

Rexam PLC announces that, in a step designed to bring its beverage can and end making capacity into line with market demand, it will be closing its aluminum can end manufacturing plant in San Leandro, Calif.

The plant, which produces around 5.5 billion aluminum can ends a year, will officially close Feb. 8, 2004.
