Severnside Recycling, Cardiff, Wales, U.K., has reportedly reached an agreement to provide waste management and recycling services to Tesco, one of the largest retailers operating in Western Europe.
According to a report posted to www.letsrecycle.com, the new deal builds on an existing contract between the two companies. Further details on the agreement are expected to emerge in June and July.
As reported by letsrecycle.com, the contract is expected to emphasize recycling and landfill diversion, with Tesco seeking to minimize or even end the practice of landfilling.
Tesco, based in Cheshunt, England, currently has a solid waste contract with Wastelink Group of Sawbridgeworth, England. Tesco’s new contract with Severnside may be the single-largest ever between a U.K. retailer and a recycling company, according to letsrecycle.com.
Tesco has more than 1,000 locations for Severnside to serve. The Welsh recycling firm has its roots in scrap paper, but has been diversifying into facilities management, according to the Web report. Severnside Recycling is a subsidiary of the St. Regis Paper Co., based in Maidenhead, England, which is itself part of the DS Smith Group, based in London.
