The city of Pittsburg invites bids from qualified contractors to provide all facilities, labor and services, required to receive, process, recycle, use and/or market scrap metals collected or accumulated by the City during curbside collections and/or from residential drop-off centers.
"Scrap Metals" are defined as all discarded metal items including but not limited to appliances (may or may not include freon containing appliances), automobile parts, furniture, fixtures and any other items consisting primarily of a metal content, including but not limited to brass, copper, aluminum, steel, tin, cast iron and any other discarded metal suitable for reprocessing.
This specifically excludes all metal items collected in the City’s residential curbside and drop-off recycling program which are covered by other contracts. The scrap metals will be collected as part of a program to divert municipal solid waste from landfills, to increase the City’s recycling rate and to insure that materials that are able to be recycled from residential programs are being recycled. The City may collect these materials in a variety of ways including but not limited to curbside collections, drop-offs, and/or special collections. The City has the sole discretion to deliver the scrap metals to the contractor or to require the contractor to pickup the scrap metals at various City locations. The City has the exclusive right to decide on the method, locations and/or frequency of the collections.
