Research and Markets has released a new report, “Global Food Contact Paper and Board Market 2015-2019.”
According to Research and Markets, the global food contact paper and board market could grow at a compound annual rate (CAGR) of 8.33 percent over the period 2014-2019.
Food contact paper and board are used to package food products such as bakery goods, fruits, beverages, and take-out foods and can be categorized as either nonpolycoated or polycoated.
According to Research and Markets, manufacturers increasingly are using paper-based packaging materials that are recyclable or biodegradable. The report finds that food contact paper packaging material is flexible and provides protection to the food from external elements such as air, dust and moisture. Reduction of food waste has become a major concern globally. Many fast food companies are using contact papers for their products, for both food service and take-out services. These papers are designed to be easy to handle, hygienic and easily disposable, and to reduce the costs for fast food vendors.
Further, the report states that one of the major challenges is the extraction of barrier coatings from the paper at the end of its lifecycle for reusability.
