Multiple reports from Europe have stated that the proposed acquisition of Germany’s Dual System Germany (DSD) by Remondis have been discontinued. According to one report, the cancellation was due to antitrust concerns that would arise through the merger of the two companies, rather than price.
One report by the German newspaper Der Spiegel indicates that as part of the negotiations, Remondis had tried to pass the risk of possible conditions imposed by the Cartel Office on the sellers of the company.
Remondis is considered the largest waste management company in Germany, while DSD, with its Gruner Punkt brand, is the largest dual system provider, or organizer of packaging collection and recycling services for retailers in Germany.
Venture capital firms HIG Capital and Bluebay own about 80 percent of DSD with the remaining 20 percent is owned by executives of the company.
