United Kingdom-based Recycling Technologies has announced that it has been named in the 2016 Global Cleantech 100 Ones to Watch list, which highlights up-and-coming companies in the market.
The companies that made the top 250 in this year’s Global Cleantech 100 programme are considered to have potential within the clean technology sector by a panel of expert judges.
Recycling Technologies says its inclusion on the Ones to Watch list comes against a backdrop of a record number of nominations received this year from across the globe. The shortlisted companies were selected from nearly 10,000 companies spanning 77 countries.
The nominated companies were weighted and scored to create a short list of 325 companies, with these short-listed nominees being reviewed by San Francisco-based Cleantech Group’s expert panel. To qualify for the list, companies have to be independent, for-profit, clean tech companies that are not listed on any major stock exchange, according to the company.
“The Global Cleantech 100 programme is our annual in-depth research exercise to identify the innovative companies who are leading players that the market is most excited about right now," says Cleantech CEO Richard Youngman. “By the nature of the list, the Ones to Watch truly represent the next cadre of exciting disruptive companies.”
Adrian Griffiths, Recycling Technologies CEO, says, “We are delighted to see that the huge potential for our sustainability as a service is once again being recognised, this time as part of the 2016 Global Cleantech 100 Ones to Watch list. The inclusion highlights the difference our technology can make to the recycling of residual plastic waste and to helping grow the circular economy that as a nation we all strive for because it can make a big difference to the health of our land and oceans.”
Recycling Technologies says its ambition is to provide a scalable solution to boost the global recycling rate, allowing the world to avoid irreversibly damaging the planet. The chemical recycling process has been embodied in the design of a machine, the RT7000, which will be assembled on production lines then installed at material recovery facilities (MRFs) around the world. The RT7000 converts unsorted residual plastic waste, which is currently disposed of in landfill or incinerators, into a low sulphur hydrocarbon known as Plaxx.
The Plaxx made by these machines is already usable as a low sulphur fuel and wax substitute and fractions will ultimately be used by global polymer manufacturers as the feedstock for making more polymer, therefore making plastic a sustainable resource, according to Recycling Technologies.
Recycling Technologies recently announced that is has been shortlisted for a Northampton, U.K.-based Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) Sustainability and Resource Award.
Founded in 2002, the Cleantech Group says its mission is to accelerate sustainable innovation. Cleantech Group’s subscriptions, events and programmes are designed to help corporates, investors and all players in the innovation ecosystem discover and connect with the key companies, trends and people in the market. Cleantech Group’s coverage is global, spans the entire clean technology theme and is relevant to the future of all industries.
