Recycling Symposium Discusses Scrap Tire Issues and Opportunities

The Rubber Association of Canada will be holding its bi-annual event in Ottawa, Ontario from Oct. 18-20. One of the areas that the group will discuss will be managing end-of-life scrap tires. "Canada is a world-leader in scrap tire management" said Glenn Maidment, president, The Rubber Association of Canada, host of the event. "We've invited leading experts from around the world, every two years since 1994, to come and share with us what can be done to recycle this valuable resource" he added.

This year delegates will learn which rubber recycling trends are growing and which are in decline; how to recycle large off-the-road tires that can stand 13 feet high and weigh up to 20,000 lbs; trends in tire technology and how they may affect tire recycling, as well as new data on tire derived fuel, tire aggregate and ground rubber markets.

"The value of these seminars is more than just educational," said Maidment. "People also come for the networking opportunities. There is a fair bit of buying and selling going on outside the meeting rooms."

This event is jointly sponsored by The Rubber Association of Canada and the Rubber Manufacturers Association, based in Washington D.C. Both organizations represent rubber manufacturers in their respective countries and promote responsible industry stewardship for end-of-life management of scrap tires.
