Recycling in Texarkana, Arkansas, is on the rise after the city secured state grants to build a recycling facility in 2014, according to a report on the website for NBC affiliates KTAL.
The facility, on Dudley Street, accepts cardboard, paper, plastics, metal and electronics, including fluorescent light bulbs, the article says.
“We processed about 45 tons of materials through the recycling center last year,” recycling coordinator Brandy Chewning told KTAL. “Unfortunately, if we weren’t here, the majority of that would just be going to the landfill.”
Residents can only dispose of their recyclables currently by depositing them at the facility. Texarkana will not have a curbside program for at least seven years, KTAL reports.
